So we made it to London and spent the first few days sight seeing. We stayed with Michael and Megan Rangi which was so great. We caught up with cam and Jill deWys and also went and saw a musical... Unfortunately we were a little jet lagged so we struggled to keep our eyes open!
We left London on Tuesday night to fly to Kenya... So we thought it eould be a good opporutnity to shake off our jetlag n this night flight until... Lucia and I were woken from a daze to an African man shouting 'excuse me everyone I have an important announcement to make... My money has been stolen... I have been mugged...' the stewards pulled him, as he screamed, to the back of the plane. He then seemed to calm down for half an hour out the back... Until it all happens over again a second time!!!! Same again.. A third time, this time as they dragged him he was lunging at passengers... Same thing again a fourth time... This time he really fought with them so they had to restrain him... He was manic by then and yelling out that they were killing him ......, we admit it, we held hands like we did on school camp when we were five. The frightening thing was, each time he woke us yelling we didn't know what he was going to announce... Initially we thought he was announcing that the place was going down!!! Two words....culture shock! WELCOME TO KENYA!!
Tim picked us up in Nairobi with a taxi. People are everywhere, walking along the railway lines, the side of the roads and motorways and crossing where ever they wish.
Arrive in Nanyuki and were greeted by Heidi and Devota. Then it was off to the meeting in a great hurry because the black clouds where getting closer. We took a matatu (public van) so far and then pikipikis (motorbikes), with each of us riding behind a Kenya dude and we were off up mud tracks to the meeting.
After the meeting we had to walk as it had rained and the tracks turn to slippery sticky mud. It sticks to the bottom of your shoes and you end up with platforms sneakers!! It is an African custom for someone to walk with you part of the way home and to carry your backpack.
Its fairly brief but gives you an idea of our trip so far... We are soon to head to meet some canadians that are over. Next week we spend the week working at the orphanage.
Lesson : don't get this overtired because when you do everything seems a lot scarier than what it probably actually is!
Cha and Lu xx
